Ode to UCW Huron Perth Mission Outreach
The ladies have gathered to tell us a story
Of working together to make mission work.
We follow our purpose of service to others
By Cooking and sewing and putting on shows.
Our favourite mission is Medical Electives
Where surgeons in training are sent out to work,
In countries where doctors are scarce and much needed.
Our duty to others we never will shirk.
To faraway places we send from our bounty,
To help with the fight against injustice and wars
In Mozambique gardens and wells for clean water,
We reach out to people so far from our shores.
As Mothers and Grammas and Aunties and Sisters,
Our hearts reach out to our sisters in pain.
To Grannies in Africa caring for grandkids,
We lend them our prayers and our finances the same.
In shelters for Women at home and away,
Our local units make choices to pay,
For life’s necessities whatever they be,
To protect women and keep them out of harms way.
The United Church Women leave no stone unturned,
As we help out in Mission trips for we have learned,
That sending our money with people from home,
Will reap great rewards for those where they roam.
The Food Grains Bank is high on our list.
Our locals support it, for it must not be missed.
It makes such a difference in this troubled world,
That food stores await when disasters unfold.
Of course we like to support our neighbor next door,
So we care for our shut-ins and kids by the score.
As we make cookies for camp and send them some money,
The success that we witness first hand is like honey.
We support Children’s programs in Church and beyond,
In Sunday school, Moms and Tots, and summertime fun,
At traveling day camp and Kids Booster club, in Children’s Aid,
And Early Years, the list goes on and on.
Habitat For Humanity made the short list.
With Hospice and Meals on Wheels, Food banks,
And Hospitals.
Well you get the Gist.
Our Missions are many I named but a few.
The M&S Fund is primary too.
Supporting our home church in projects so varied. I’m sure you must think we must be very weary..
And we’ll move on together to continue the work
To fulfill our Purpose as Women of Christ’s Church.
